Diaspara

WP3 - Databases & Current status

  • Several databases (WGs) - resources!

  • RDBES (marine catch data + catch sampling)

  • These need to be maintained in the long term

  • Overlap in data calls

Frameworks for assessment

  • FAIR (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, Reusability).
  • Use of TAF (Transparent assessment Framework).
  • Use of DATSU (quality insurance and checking procedures for data call).

Everything is online

Topics Today

    1. What databases are being created

Note!

  • In the long run, the number of databases and/or their location should not affect the WG work

The databases

STOCK DATABASE

  • All unified data
  • Data from models etc.
  • Validation from ICES
  • Hosting: under discussion

METRICS DATABASE -

  • Benefiting from the WGEEL DB, using similar vocab (series + sampling)

  • Group and individual data

  • There is already a mapping by ICES of the data structure

HABITAT DATABASE

  • Not a db: Vocabulary

  • Other databases are using this

ELECTROFISHING DATABASE and OBSTACLES DATABASE

  • Link to Habitat database
  • Freshwater data
  • Schemas in DIASPARA

Important to remember!

  • We are producing different dictionaries
  • These will be used at ICES (for everything)
  • AREA (Habitat) is part of the vocabulary

Example: Catch data

  • Already in RDBES
  • Duplicated in WG data calls
  • No freshwater data currently
  • TAF to get the data for the assessment use
  • Work to ensure all data are available
  • DIASPARA habitat data to add freshwater areas

    1. Examples of data

Group and individual metric DB

  • DIASPARA WP2 data collection.

  • Based on our analysis of the three DB’s: a common database structure for all species is possible

  • This structure will work on the same referential structure.

Excel file for the DB

Habitat DB

  • Format : Geoparquet, Postgis schema
  • Hydroatlas. Version 2 is coming!
  • EU-Hydro different information but smaller coverage
  • The idea is to have access to both
  • Several releases (ZENODO)

Habitat: Splitting per ICES Ecoregion

All Catchments corresponding to ICES ecoregions, source of the catchments hydrosheds.

Example from the Baltic Sea: Subdivision level

Figure 1: Subdivision level WGBAST, souce hydrosheds for the continental habitat

    1. Timeline and WG’s

What does this mean for the data providers

  • Catch data in one data call only
  • DATSU submission
  • Automatic checks

What does this mean for the working groups

  • TAF to get data from different DB’s
  • Access via API: analyse part of the data
  • Same language for all: DB management and analysis
  • Shiny app to display data
  • Shorter reports?
  • Note: Smartdots

Are all data publicly available?

  • Case specific
  • See e.g., catch data

The timeline?

Help needed

  • Ensure river data are in a useful format
  • Ensure habitat split is in a useful format
  • Share your concerns with us!
  • WGDIAD recommendation
  • A lot of work has been done with vocab. It will be used for everything. Review needed.

Thank you!
